    John 1:43-51

What is the meaning to the title "pastor?" We will have greater understanding of this title, as we get to know each other, serve with each other, laugh with each other, and of course weep with each other.  In this scripture, Nathanael is unsure of Jesus until he meets him. Jesus said to him that the relationship will grow in the days ahead.

God is continually preparing us for things we might not ever fully know.
    Acts 9:19b-30
Throughout our lives, we are confronted with new challenges and opportunities.  Every experience builds upon each other.  And while we might desire to have a carefully planned future with expected results, the only thing that will remain constant is the presence and gifting of God.

    John 7:37-39
The story of Pentecost was not something that should have come as a surprise for those who heard and listened to Jesus' words.  But, like the Disciples, we are often too distracted to hear what God is telling us in the midst of our lives.  What else might we be missing as a word from God?

Jesus calls us to patience and preparation, in the midst of our eagerness to action.  The Book of Acts opens up with a brief recounting of the ascension of Jesus.  In this period between resurrection and Pentecost, we are given subtle instructions that help remind us that God’s timing is not our timings, and that God’s ways are not our ways.  It becomes an opportunity to exercise our patience and humility.

    John 17:1-11
Jesus himself sought the company and guidance of his Heavenly Father.  In doing so, he was demonstrating what it meant to be sanctified to God.  His prayer for us in the Gospel of John was that we would be sanctified as He was.  The truth of God’s word then becomes the guide for our life in Christ.

    John 15:1-8
Sometimes, we feel as if having things removed in our lives will lead to a sense of loss or maybe even identity.  What if, in the context of being a part of the Body of Christ, it’s just the opposite?  What if pruning is just a way in which we are exposed to the fullness of relationship with God and others that we could not experience amidst all the “clutter” of our lives?

    John 10:7-15
We seek comfort and security in the midst of uncertainty and chaos.  Jesus explains in several examples how he provides structure and guidance to those who follow Him.  It is our actions in the midst of uncertainty that demonstrate our ability to hear the voice of God in our lives amid the noise of life.

    John 21:1-6
Like the Last Supper, Jesus uses the setting of the simple meal on the shore of the Galilee in order that they might remember the things they were taught when they walked with Jesus.  While Peter is instructed to “feed His sheep”, they might also have recalled that Jesus referred to himself as the “bread of life”.  What are we feeding ourselves, and one another?

    John 11 (excerpts)
The story of Lazarus seems to me to be an amazing example of Jesus compassion and understanding of human suffering. But his compassion also leads to others viewing him with distrust and fear. Might our compassion sometimes be viewed in the same way by others?.
